The Hose Monster®

Until the early 1990s, fire pump testers relied on the playpipe and hand-held pitots. For hydrant testers, water was discharged across the street and flow-rate was measured through a bouncing gauge needle on a hand-held pitot through an inexact orifice with a guessed-at coefficient. All this changed with the introduction of the Hose Monster®.
